BUCKS SUMMIT TO FEATHER RIVER (PCT) 20.0 mi one-way/2.0 days at Bucks Summit Trailhead at the southern boundary of the Bucks Lake Wilderness west of Quincy Map 5.1, page 181 It's 21! miles from Bucks Summit to Belden, all of it on the Pacific Crest Trail through the Bucks Lake Wilderness. The trail passes across a granitic-based alpine area, where forest is interspersed with glacier-smoothed rock peaks. The trailhead is at Bucks Summit (elevation 5,531 feet), and from here, the remit; generally follows the ridge-line for many miles, climbing to the southern flank of Mount Pleasant, at 6,924 feet. Along the way, a short spur trail to little Rock Lake provides a good side trip. The trail heads past Three Lakes, where another spur trail provides another option, this one to Kellogg Lake. From here, the trail begins descending and then drops very sharply all the way down to 2,310 feet, to the North Fork Feather River at Belden. Your big toes will be sore for clays from jamming into the fronl of your boots. To continue north on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), see the Feather River to Humboldt Summit (PCT) hike, in the Lassen and Modoc chapter. If you are walking this trail in reverse, sec the Fowler Peak lo Bucks Summit (PCT] hike, in the Tahoe and the Northern Sierra chapter, to continue south. User Groups: Hikers, dogs, and horses.
